About us

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. Theatre Resource is a dynamic and forward-looking professional arts organisation, specialising in the area of disability arts and social inclusion. Our work promotes the creativity, culture and heritage of disabled people and socially excluded groups, for the benefit of all.

Employing 25 staff and with a turnover of over £1.2m, Theatre Resource is one of the largest ‘disabled-led’ arts organisations in the UK and the only one to own and operate its own arts education centre.

Theatre Resource is a really exciting place to work, and a great organisation to become involved with and we hope this website gives a taste of what we have to offer.

The work
We believe ‘passionately’ in the right of all people to enjoy and benefit from what the arts has to offer, creatively, educationally and economically. All of the activities and events we run are designed to open up ‘pathways’ into the arts for people who traditionally have the least opportunity to learn about, or take up employment in the creative industries.

Working across artforms, including the visual, media and performing arts, our services include:

  • Outreach 'taster' activities in Essex, Hertfordshire and East London
  • Training courses and programmes at our own arts education centre (for people from across the region and beyond)
  • Regional and national projects delivered in partnership with a wide range of organisations and agencies
  • Residential courses
  • Professional touring productions
  • Employment and supported-employment for emerging artists
  • Longer-term employment opportunities in the arts for disabled people and other socially excluded groups

The cause
We also believe that, if our work is to have maximum impact, we need to raise the profile of arts work created by disabled people and other excluded groups, tell other people about the success we have achieved through the ‘pathways’ approach and work to change the wider environment in which the arts take place.

We ensure that all of our activities, from the workshops and training courses we run to the exhibitions and professional performances we present, strive for the highest possible artistic standards - equal to, or better than, the best that is on offer from the ‘mainstream’ arts world.

Our activities include:

  • Providing regional leadership for the East of England in the area of disability arts and social inclusion
  • Regional training programmes for artists and arts organisations and partners working in education, health and social are sectors
  • Conferences, networking and dissemination activities

We very much hope that you find this site useful and informative and that you can become involved in the work of our organisation as an artist, participant or partner organisation.
